In an earlier blog post, we told you all about how our custom furniture company was selected to show our work at the Western Design Conference (WDC) in Jackson Hole, Wyoming in September of this year. To say we are excited is an understatement! This conference is an amazing opportunity to connect with potential clients, as well as other woodworkers, artists, and home design professionals. It is attended by owners of luxury homes from around the world looking for pieces to complete their Western-inspired interiors.
Earlier this month, the WDC showcased one of our pieces—a live edge coffee table made from a Claro Walnut slab—on their Instagram page. We love this piece because it really highlights the beauty of the wood itself. We are honored that the WDC chose to feature our custom woodworking company among all of the other talented artists who will be at this year’s Conference.
As a featured artist at the WDC, we are able to submit one piece for judging. Since the WDC is largely a show for people who consider themselves artists, we are taking this opportunity to craft a piece that’s a little more creative and artsy than we typically build. The design and building process has been a great experience for us! We have been able to explore various creative ideas and turn them into a piece that we are very excited about!
While we can’t say a lot about the piece we’re working on—it has to be debuted at the show, according to WDC rules—we can say that it’s a very unique, live-edge occasional table. Its design is so intricate that we have invested more than 200 hours of our time just in shaping and sanding of the live edge! It’s turning out just as we had hoped, and we think it will be a show stopper when all is said and done!
In addition to being judged at the Conference, the table will be on display in the WDC exhibit hall and available for purchase. We hope it finds its way to a great home, but more than that, we hope this table will open up conversations with other Conference attendees who are looking to have a custom table built for their homes. It definitely showcases our capabilities in both design and construction.
Once the Conference is over, we will be featuring the table on our Featured Projects page for all to see, as well as on our Instagram page. If you haven’t yet followed our Instagram page, it’s a great way to keep up with everything we’re doing here at Smith Farms.
As this is our first year attending the WDC, we’re not exactly sure what to expect. We’re keeping an open mind, but are hopeful that it will be a great experience. If you happen to be in Jackson Hole in early September, consider making a pitstop at the Conference. You are sure to see some amazing furniture and art on display. We’d love to see you there!
