Solid Wood Square Coffee Table in Ash
The Silted Ash Coffee Table offers a beautiful centerpiece with a very unique story. The top was created from two book matched Ash crotch slabs that have wild, intense coloring and dramatic figure that’s far beyond what’s typically found with Ash.
The story of how these slabs gained so much character and beauty is an interesting one. After the slabs were initially milled, they were left outside to air dry for a few years. However, the slabs were then submerged during a flood and spent a long time underwater. As the flood waters receded, the slabs were left mostly buried in the mud and remained there. Over time, the slabs softened, rotted, and took on silt from the earth, creating the unique coloration. The slabs also became Spalted as they were attacked by fungus.
The majority of the two slabs were rotten beyond repair. We took the sections that were salvageable and stabilized them with several rounds of penetrating epoxy and milled them into usable material.
The angular table base was crafted from thick sections of Ebonized Alder, allowing the unique tabletop to remain the focus.
The resulting table is a bold and functional piece of modern art, a captivating focal point that elevates your home’s aesthetic.
