Even though we’re custom woodworkers, we understand that not everyone wants furniture made entirely of wood. For example, some of our customers want tables with metal bases, and others want wood bases to support tabletops made of glass, marble, granite, or other types of materials.
Wood dining table bases can be difficult to find outside of custom furniture companies like ours. If you’ve looked around at the table bases that are available online, and still can’t find what you’re looking for, Smith Farms would love to help!
Styles of Dining Table Bases
The style of your custom wood dining table base can be just about anything you can imagine. It can be a pedestal, apron and legs, trestle style, farmhouse style, or something else. Depending on the size, shape, and material of the tabletop we are working with, we will likely have some suggestions as to what will work best. For example, if you have a round tabletop, we might recommend a pedestal base. If you have an especially long tabletop, you will want something that provides some support in the middle.
We will work with you to design a table base that will complement your design style, as well as perfectly support your tabletop.
Hardwoods Used for Table Bases
We use a variety of hardwoods for our custom dining table bases, including many domestic hardwoods. Some species of wood we love to use are Cherry, Oak, Walnut, and Ash. All of these are hard enough to be used for structural pieces like table bases, but also beautiful. There are many other species to choose from—these are just a few of the most popular, and they are also readily available to us in Southern California.
If you want something different or exotic, we can likely source it for you from one of the many wood dealers or lumber yards that we work with. Just let us know what you are looking for, and we will do our best to track it down!
